Notting Hill Carnival

The August bank holiday is rapidly approaching and with it the Notting Hill Carnival.  It is the biggest street party in Europe and an intrinsic part of Bayswater’s history.  However, we realise it also brings significant inconvenience to residents.  We’ve been working closely with the council to try and improve the experience for residents.

Portable loos – We’ve listened to your feedback and are increasing the number of portable loos 100% to 454 in Westminster as well as introducing better signage.    These will be based within the Carnival zone and should improve the experience for residents.

Clean Up – All residents who live within the carnival route are entitled to the Council clean-up of their front gardens and basements.  Please note that this is an opt in service and is provided free of charge by Westminster City Council.  To sign up for this service please visit https://www.westminster.gov.uk/notting-hill-carnival before the 23rd August.

Security – The security of our residents and those attending Carnival is paramount.  The Met police will have 6,000 officers on duty on Sunday and 7,000 officers on Monday.  In the interest of security, the vehicle ban within the carnival zone will continue this year from 6.00 am on the 26th to 5.00 am on the 28th.  We did challenge the ability of the police to exercise discretion on a case by case basis, however the security assessment has come back that the blanket ban on vehicles entering the zone will stay in place.  We are aware that this causes enormous inconvenience, but we do need to accept the wisdom of the police on this issue.

Grenfell – In commemoration of the Grenfell tragedy a 72 second silence will be held at 3.00 pm on both the Sunday and Monday of Carnival.

For residents who will be attending we’d like to wish you a Happy Carnival, for all others a Happy Bank Holiday Get Away.
